Tenets of Faith

We believe:

  1. That God is good and loving, and that all life is gracious, leading not only to faith in God, but to faith in oneself.
  2. That life itself puts us in direct relationship with God.
  3. That if I am created in the likeness and image of God, that I am not only in God, but that God is in me to such a degree that I believe my being, in its center, in its soul, is the being of God.
  4. That the Church celebrates the presence and the nearness of God, and that the Church reveals the many faces of God, expecting the Unexpected One, in the most unexpected of people and places.
  5. That I am the Risen Christ, by faith, and that we are all sacraments to each other, by faithful love.
  6. That spirituality is a process and a relationship of bringing the shadow-side of our personalities, the unredeemed part of ourselves, onto the cross of God's mercy and compassion, rising into inner strength and freedom from within.
  7. That, as in the early Christian community, there are only three mortal sins needing to be confessed: murder, adultery, and heresy.
  8. That first marriages / Holy Unions are always blessed, but second marriages / Holy Unions are equally blessed, allowing people to begin again and to believe in the truth that God is a forgiving God and that God wants all people to be happy.
  9. That being gay or lesbian is neither a sin nor an emotional disorder and that loving same-gendered unions are blessed with the Rite of Holy Union.
  10. That sex is unitive and consonant with Christ's teaching and that birth control is not a sin; and that a couple has the innate right to determine how many and \ when they desire to have or parent children as long as they arrive at the decision mutually and unselfishly.
  11. That clergy have the option of Marriage, Holy Union, and family life.
  12. That women who receive a calling from the Holy Spirit be ordained.
  13. That, by Baptism, all believers are sharers in the priesthood of Jesus Christ and have the power and ability to celebrate passages and rites of faith within the home, for the home is the first church and parents are the first teachers of faith.
  14. That autrity in the Church is not hierarchical or judicial but rather affirmative in its path to create new possibilities of growth, conversion and vision.
  15. That church policy is resolved collegially and the faith community is open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
  16. That the religious and sexual education of children is established by the parents in the home with the support of the Pastor and educational staff.
  17. That believers are encouraged to give generously to the charities of their choice beginning with the faith community and lost, alienated, and exiled people of God.
  18. That all finances be handled by a financial manager, who is deemed qualified. The pastor's primary responsibility is to be a priest and spiritual leader.
  19. That daily Eucharist be celebrated each day, in the home or parish residence of the pastor if necessary, and that Sunday be considered a complete day of rest, focusing on the family.
  20. That the Gospel is the basis of Christian community, formed by the Holy Spirit, and inspired by the spirit of Vatican Council II, and modern spiritual writers and theologians, such as Karl Rahner, Bernard Cooke, John McNeil, Edward Schillebeex, Hans Kung, Richard McCormick, Richard McBrien, Charles Curran, and Daniel Helminiack.
